MATHÄI Klassik Brut
This special single-variety sparkling wine from the popular Austrian grape variety Grüner Veltliner is produced in the traditional methode. It impresses with its delicate mousseux, fruity and spicy aromas on the nose and typically hints of white pepper on the palate. An elegant sparkling wine, multi-layered, with an unmistakabel Austrian style.
Variety and origin:
Grüner Veltliner is Austria’s signature grape. It produces world class wines in all possible wines styles, such as also as sparkling wine. The grapes for our Grüner Veltliner brut grow in cool vineyards in Klosterneuburg. The grapes were picked by hand and only the wine from the first pressing is used to make this sparkling wine.
Stift Klosterneuburg Wine Estate:
Since its foundation in 1114 Stift Klosterneuburg monastery has been cultivating wine, making it the oldest winery of Austria. With a total vineyard area of 108 hectares in the best locations of Klosterneuburg, Vienna and Thermenregion it counts among the most renowned wine estates in the country. As pioneers in the field of sustainability and climate protection Stift Klosterneuburg is Europe’s first carbon neutral winery since 2009.
The sparkling wines of Klosterneuburg Monastery Wine Estate are named after Christoph II. Mathäi. Mathäi – a contemporary of Dom Perignon and provost of Klosterneuburg Monastery from 1686 to 1706 – performed great services toward the development of winemaking in Klosterneuburg. To honour him, the Monastery sparkling wines bear the name »Mathäi«.
